Napoli Exit Talks Put Lukaku on Turkish Radar

Romelu Lukaku may be heading for another major move, and this one would take him from Naples to Istanbul. Fenerbahce have made a serious push for the Belgian striker, while Napoli appear ready to sell if the offer holds.

Fenerbahce have moved first

The Turkish club has reportedly submitted an official bid worth more than €6 million, a figure that is close to Lukaku’s current market value. Personal terms are said to be in place, which leaves the clubs as the final obstacle.

If the agreement is completed, it would add another surprising chapter to a career built on constant movement, high expectations, and steady goal production.

A career defined by big fees and bigger questions

Lukaku has never been easy to price. Clubs have repeatedly paid premium fees for him because of one simple fact: he scores. Across senior football, he has delivered 316 goals in 681 appearances, and that output has kept him in demand even when his form has fluctuated.

His transfer history explains the scale of his reputation. Anderlecht sold him to Chelsea as a teenager, Everton then sold him to Manchester United, United sent him to Inter, Chelsea brought him back in one of the most expensive deals in football history, and Napoli later paid to bring him to Italy again.

  1. Anderlecht sold him to Chelsea for €15 million.
  2. Chelsea moved him to Everton for €35 million.
  3. Manchester United paid €85 million to sign him.
  4. Inter later secured him for €74 million.
  5. Chelsea spent €113 million to bring him back.
  6. Napoli signed him in 2024 for €30 million.

Those moves have pushed his accumulated transfer total to €370 million. If Fenerbahce complete this deal, that figure rises to €376 million, which is remarkable for a player who may now be sold for a relatively modest fee by modern standards.

What Napoli and Fenerbahce want next

For Napoli, the decision is practical. They can recover value, trim the squad, and move forward. For Fenerbahce, the appeal is obvious: Lukaku brings proven finishing, physical strength, and the kind of profile that can change a season.

At 33, he is no longer the same long-term investment clubs once imagined. He is now a short-term answer, and that can still be very valuable. If the deal closes, Fenerbahce will be betting that his goals arrive faster than the doubts around him.

The final stages of the move will decide whether this is another smart business exit for Napoli or another bold gamble for one of Turkey’s biggest clubs.
